And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this? (Esther 4:14, ESV)
Yesterday, I shared 7 reasons why you feel empty. Feel free to check out the post here. I wanted to take a deeper look at each on of the reasons.
There first was having an unclear purpose. You don’t know why you are here. You wake up on the morning and your hope is simply to get through the day. You don’t have anything that motivates you or drives you. You seek to survive rather than thrive.
Each of us exists for a purpose that is bigger than ourselves. Do you know what that is? We exist for more than living the most comfortable life possible. If the only things we did were the things that made us happy, we would end up living a miserable life.
You have been put here for such a time as this. God does not make mistakes. He created you. He gave you certain spiritual gifts and experiences to make a difference in this world. You may not make national headlines, but he made you to be a difference maker. Sometimes it is making big differences and sometimes it is making smaller differences. Oftentimes the biggest difference we can make is right in our own family.
Recognize there are seasons in life. Your purpose today may not be your purpose tomorrow. I am in a season in life where I have young children. They have certain needs and a big part of my purpose in this season of life is tied up with them. But there will come a day when my kids are older and my purpose will not be as focused on them.
A last word on this is “do something.” Sometimes we wait for some great revelation from God to discover our purpose. But often times purpose is not something that is caught rather than taught. It is discovered in doing. Don’t be afraid to try new ways of serving others. You may be surprised at what brings you joy and passion. If you wait to find your purpose you will wait a long time. A purpose is not something that is found, but something that is made.
Reflection
- What is your purpose?
- If you don’t know your purpose, how can you better connect with a purpose? How can you make your purpose?
Prayer
Lord, I know that you have put me here for reason. I am part of something that is bigger than myself. Fill me with your Holy Spirit that I may live kingdom minded as a difference in my family, my place of work, my church, my community, and the world. Amen.
