“And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” (Philippians 1:6, ESV)
If you are like me, you have a long to-do list. There are more things on the list than you can accomplish. At the end of the day, there will be unfinished tasks. This will create anxiety. I know I become stressed about what I don’t get done. I want to do more. I want to build faster and make more stuff happen.
And when we come to the end of this life there will still be things left unfinished. We will die with stuff undone. There will always be stuff left unfinished. There will always be more to do. This can be troubling if we put everything upon ourselves. We will be burdened.
But when we have a proper perspective of our work, we will recognize it is a privilege that we have to work and serve. If you are doing God’s work, it is not up to you to complete the task. God’s work is God’s responsibility to finish. I do my part to the best of my ability. But what I am unable to finish, I trust that God will bring it to completion.
This gives us great confidence. It is not all up to me. It is not up to you. It is all up to God. Have the patience to wait on God. Receive greater peace with your limitations.
Your value is not in what you accomplished. Your value is found in what was accomplished for you. It is a blessing that God has entrusted us to serve. But rest content that what God has entrusted to you, he will bring to completion.
Reflection
- Do you have anxiety as a result of unfinished tasks?
- How do you trust God to finish what you are unable to accomplish?
Prayer
Thank you, Lord, that you have entrusted to me great responsibility. But too often I unnecessarily burden myself with tasks that you have not given me. Give me trust to do what I can do, and leave to you to accomplish what I am unable. Give me peace with my limitations. Amen.
