Then I replied to them, “The God of heaven will make us prosper, and we his servants will arise and build, but you have no portion or right or claim in Jerusalem.” (Nehemiah 2:20, ESV)
Nehemiah knew that God was key the to success. It is God who makes us prosper. That is why he says, “the God of heaven will make us prosper.” Nehemiah knew everything comes from God. Nothing we have is achieved without his enabling.
Yet we tend to put more confidence in ourselves than God. We try to figure ways of working harder, smarter, or more efficiently to gain more success. We put the burden of success upon ourselves. But in the end, trusting in our ability will lead to failure.
When you are not experiencing the success you hoped to experience, it is time to listen. It is time to seek the Lord. It is time to find your strength in him. Stop trusting in yourself, and put your trust in him.
Success comes when our lives in alignment with God’s will. If life is out of sorts, consider the possibility that you are not in step with God. If this is the place you find yourself, make sure to tune in this week. This week we look at some reasons why you are not experiencing the fruitfulness and abundance that God has promised.
Reflection
1) Do you believe that abundance comes from God? Why or why not?
2) What are some reasons you believe we fail to experience God’s abundance?
Prayer
Lord, you are my prosperity. You are my success. You are my all in all. Lord, I ask that you would help me to remain in you to experience the fruitfulness and abundance that you have promised. Amen.
