When sending my emails, I use a service called MailChimp. My mailing list has 7,000+ subscribers, so it does not work well to send email in the traditional way. MailChimp manages the users who subscribe and unsubscribe from my mailing list. It would be too much for me to manage all that without this service. Another important reason I use MailChimp is that they help keep my email messages from going to your SPAM filter. Sending 7,000 emails at one time can easily get you flagged as a spammer by email service providers. If you are not signed up or my mailing list, you can do so at philressler.com/mail-list.
There are a bunch of other great benefits to this service, but one feature I find fascinating is the statistics that MailChimp provides. I was recently looking around on MailChimp and came across the top locations where my email subscribers interact with my emails. These locations include:
- Detroit, MI
- Dallas, TX
- Houston, TX
- Denver, CO
- Monroe, LA
These are not exactly the places I would have guessed. I do know that I have a good number of readers from Texas. So those two cities did not surprise me. Detroit surprised me that it is my most popular location. I am not sure why Detroit.
Then there was Monroe, LA. It is unique in this list because it is not what I would consider a large Metropolitan City. I have never been to Monroe, but I don’t believe it is comparable in size to the other cities on the list.
None of these are places where I have lived in the past nor presently. I might have expected New Jersey or Illinois to be at the top of the list, but neither was to be found.
I have visited Detroit, Dallas, and Houston. But have never been to either Denver nor Monroe. I have visited Louisiana several times, but never Colorado. Colorado is one place I do hope to visit sometime.
What does this mean? If nothing else, I find it interesting. It tells me that you come from many places. Wherever you are, thank you for reading my blog. If you have a second, give a shout out in the comments below to share where you are from.
Mechanicsville Va, close to the Richmond atea

I’ve been following you for years. Loved your 40 Days of Lent series, both of them. I live in Lake St. Louis, MO. Keep up God’s good work. Don’t be disappointed, God’s got plans for you & in His time, you’ll know what they are. I go to Chapel on the Lake, Non-denominational Church. The people there are genuine & so friendly. They pull you in with your morning greeting handshake. So welcoming! And Pastor Keith’s preaching is straight out of the Bible. I’m blessed to have found this little church. Keep up the good work Pastor Ressler!
I am from Detroit but live in Omaha. I was trying to remember how I heard about your blog but my memory has failed me. I’m grateful to whomever shared it. I have enjoyed reading your blog for the last few years during some very difficult times.
I can’t wait to hear where this next step takes you as I am assured that He is guiding you to better things.

Reading this devotional the last few years was a lifeline to me! Your spiritual guidance helped me survive when my 36 year marriage fell apart and I tried to rebuild my life. Reading this each day gave me the strength to go on when I didn’t know how or where to go or what to do. How do I ever thank you enough?

Chagrin Falls,OH – Deb Novak. I found your 40 Days of Lent by accident years ago. I love starting my day with a lesson. Thank you for all for sharing.
Oshkosh Wisconsin. I also love your Lenten Series. I have the book besides the online version. Have purchased additional books to give to others as I think they are beneficial to many. Have read many of your articles and find them very helpful. Belong to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. (Mo. Synod) This article is especially helpful to me as once you stop attending services it is difficult to resume but I am trying with God’s help to do so. Due to my husband’s Parkinson’s it has been difficult but I know God always is with us through these hard situations. Thank you again for your thought provoking messages.
I live inPort St. Lucie, FL. I believe I read some of your writings somehow on Facebook and enjoyed it enough to become one of your subscribers which I’m so happy I did. I attend a Lutheran ECLA church and I’ve shared your writings with the churches Facebook page.
Not sure how long I’ve been following but it’s definitely been several years and like many others I believe it was your 40 Days of Lent series that drew me in. I have thoroughly enjoyed your posts and your recent post about the challenge of your congregation choosing to sell your current property and then the sale falling through breaks my heart for you all. I belong to Forest Lake Presbyterian Church in Columbia, SC where I have been a member all 48 years of my life. Our church currently struggles with balancing staff needs with budget as I’m sure your church has seen a change in gifts as our congregation ages and we struggle to add new members. Our Senior Pastor has worn so many hats over her 10+ years serving our church that I worry often about her personal health due to the stress. I will keep you and your congregation in my prayers as you continue to discern God’s plan for your congregation.
