Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. (Psalm 1:5, ESV)
Our verse of the week this week is Psalm 1:5. We are nearing the end of Psalm 1 in our memorization challenge. In this verse, we are reminded the wicked will not stand the judgment day.
There is a judgment. On Thursday, we observed Ascension Day. Ascension Day is the day we remember how Jesus ascended to the throne of God where he today lives and reigns. As we believe that Jesus ascended into heaven, we also believe that he will come again one day to judge the living and the dead. On this judgment day, all things will be called to account. Every wrong will be made right.
It is because of the anticipation of the coming of Jesus that we can endure persecution at the hands of others. We know that nothing goes unseen by God. Those who wrong us will not get away with it. Those who seem to prosper through unscrupulous measures will see their prosperity come to an end. They will be made to give an answer before the righteous judge.
This verse also acknowledges the assembly of the righteous. We know that not one of us is righteous on our own. It is only the shed blood of Jesus that gives us righteousness. The assembly of the righteous is not made of perfect people, but those who have found help in Jesus the Savior. There is no other way to join this assembly. But we thank Jesus because of what he accomplished, that we can join that assembly, even though we don’t deserve it.
