But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. (Philippians 3:7, ESV)
The word priority is singular. It doesn’t work in the plural. As soon as you have priorities, you no longer have a priority.
In Philippians 3:7, the Apostle Paul affirms our priority is Christ. Christ is not to be another thing; rather he is to be the only thing. Jesus is not another thing to add to the to-do list; rather he will inform our to-do list.
In verse 8, Paul further explains:
Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.(Philippians 3:8, ESV)
The surpassing worth of knowing Christ! There is nothing else. At the end of our life, nothing else will matter. Did you know Christ? Every other question will fade in the background as a distant second.
The challenge is to know Christ in every part of our life. For those of us who are believers, we may know Christ in parts of our lives. But there are certainly parts where he is left out. We may know Christ in our family life, but he may get left out in our work life. We may know Christ on Sunday morning, but Friday night he is not found. We may know Christ in the good times of life. But when the trials come our way, we don’t seek him.
The pursuit is not another thing. The pursuit is everything.
