It’s Christmas Eve! I’m glad you checked in today. Many of us will soon be headed to Christmas Eve worship and family gatherings. We will celebrate the birth of our Savior Jesus. So I wanted to keep this message short and offer this prayer:
Heavenly Father,
You are all too wonderful. You are all too lovely. You are my Lord, my God, my all in all. You are worthy of all praise, glory, and honor. You alone deserve my worship. It’s so easy to make this holiday about so many other things, but help me to put you first in every part of the celebration.
There is nothing I deserve from you. I have sinned in thought, word, and deed. You have not always been my highest aim. I have chased after worldly pleasures and ignored your guidance in my life. I have often lived more in fear than in faith. Instead of expressing love towards others, I respond with anger and bitterness. Because of my pride, I am often reluctant to ask for help. While the people around me might think I have it all together, deep down inside of me, I am broken, and I cannot fix it.
You see all and know all. I do not confess this because you are unaware. I confess this for my sake so that I might recognize my need and receive the gift of your forgiveness found in Jesus this Christmas.
On this Christmas Eve, I thank you for the gift of your grace. Thank you for sending Jesus into this world and my life. Thank you for sending Jesus so that I might know you and live in a relationship with you. Thank you for the forgiveness he has won. Thank you for his victory over death. Thank you for the power of the Holy Spirit in my life and the calling you have placed upon me. Thank you that I can always call out to you. Thank you that in spite of my brokenness, you give me a new start. Thank you for refining me through the trials of life. Thank you for meeting me where I am.
Give your joy and peace to all who suffer this day. May they look to you to find strength in weakness, healing through brokenness, and hope in spite of persecution. We pray for those living in darkness to discover the miracle that is found in the baby born in Bethlehem. We pray for the Holy Spirit to capture hearts and minds. Bring your perfect love and peace into this world one person at a time.
Even so, come Lord Jesus! Amen.
