I have returned from my August/September sabbatical. It was good to take time off to rest and replenish. My cup is full and now runneth over. I am eager to get back to writing and connecting with all the great people I have met through this blog.
Many of you have reached out to me over the course of the last month. I have been blessed by all your prayers and words of encouragement. Many of you asked about how my foot was doing. The answer is that the burn has healed well. It is still not 100%, but I have been able to resume my full slate of activities, although with a little less intensity. I am grateful to God for the healing he has provided. And I am grateful for his gracious presence that helped bring me through a difficult time. I am grateful for the people he has put into my life – my family, my friends, and especially my wife, Barbara. I am grateful to have the opportunity to serve him and to help make a difference for his kingdom.
But wow! Life is certainly crazy. It is filled with all sorts of unexpected turns and surprises. The best-laid plans can easily be turned upside-down in a moment. It is so easy to get derailed from your best intentions. I could have never imagined all that happened over the last year. But here I am! God has been with me every step of the way guiding. He is faithful all the time, and he is 100% true to all his promises.
I am happy to return to a sense of normalcy. But what is normal? There is nothing ordinary about the life we live on this earth. Life is extraordinary in ways that are both good and bad. The only constant throughout this life is our amazing God. If we make the foundation of our life to the events, the twists, and the turns we go through every day, we will constantly be tossed about. But Jesus invites us to make him the solid foundation of our life that never moves. So when the storms come (and they will), we will be secure in his love.
I must say that I don’t understand why all that has happened has happened. It is not necessary for us to always know the answers. We may never know the answers in this lifetime. But it is for us to trust. We believe God is good. We believe God knows what he is doing. We believe that God loves us. And that is enough! Satan can take his best shot, but he will not win the day. Jesus holds the victory!
