The Bible uses relational language when it speaks about our connection with God. Consider the following:
- Jesus teaches us to pray, “Our Father.”
- Ephesians 5:22-33 compares the relationship of a husband and wife with the relationship that God has with the church.
- Think about the Sacrament of the Altar. It is called the Lord’s Supper. The Lord shares this meal with us. There are few things in life that are as relational as breaking bread with someone.
- God became flesh and made his dwelling among us. He took on flesh and blood to live life with us.
God wants to know you. And he wants you to know him. He is not a theological doctrine. He is not a theory in the universe. He is not an impersonal force. He is not a fairy tale or figment of our imagination. He is real. He is here. He speaks. He listens. He provides. He empathizes. He strengthens. He loves. He enters into our lives in a deeply personal way.
If you want to know him, he will make himself know. He will come alongside you. He will be part of your life. He will go before you. He will stand behind you. He will take you by the hand. He will carry you.
You might sometimes feel alone, but by faith, you will know that you are never alone. You might sometimes feel like no one understands, but by faith, you will know that God understands.
God wants to know you. Do you want to know him?
Reflection
- How has God made himself known to you?
- In what ways do you pursue a relationship with God?
