The LORD by wisdom founded the earth; by understanding he established the heavens… (Proverbs 3:19, ESV)
There is a big theological word that is used to describe the wisdom of God. The word is omniscient. It means all-wise and all-knowing.
God is wisdom. When you have a decision to make, go with God. You will never go wrong. Still, we question God. We argue with God. We get angry with God. But let me tell you that questioning God will not get you very far. You are never going to win that argument. God knows so much better than you will ever know.
The Scriptures communicate the wisdom of God to us. If we are wise, we will listen and heed the words that God gives to us. It’s not for us to question. The wisdom of God is for us to seek and follow.
So many of the challenges we have in life come as a result of thumbing our noses at the wisdom of God. I sometimes find it amazing how we can question God’s love for us when something bad happens to us because we failed to heed his wisdom.
Wisdom is the proper use of knowledge. Wisdom and knowledge go hand in hand. But if You have to choose between wisdom or knowledge, then go with wisdom. 1 Corinthians 8:1 tells us that knowledge puffs us up. But be careful because pride – without wisdom – comes before the fall.
When King Solomon was given a request from God, he requested wisdom. God blessed that request. Wisdom resulted in many more blessings in life. Seek the wisdom of God. Follow the wisdom of God. You will be glad you did.
Reflection
- Where do you need wisdom from God in your life today? Where are you ignoring God’s wisdom in your life?
- Where have you seen the consequences of not heeding God’s wisdom?
Prayer
God, you are wise. Grant me wisdom in my life. Help me to make wise decisions for my welfare and the welfare of others. I pray that through seeking and following your wisdom you will be glorified. Amen.
