“One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much.”
Luke 16:10, ESV
Thank God you are different. You are unique. You are you. You are not like anyone else. The world would be a boring place if everyone was the same. But we are not. Every person adds a little bit of flavor and spice to life.
We live in a world of comparison. And comparison creates dissatisfaction. It is what advertisers use against us. Advertisers portray an alternative image for your life. They hold that image up as the ideal of what your life could be like if you purchase their product. It is all designed to create dissatisfaction with your current state of being. The reality is that they do not promote the product as much as they promote a certain image.
We have more stuff today than at any point in history. We have bigger houses to keep all our stuff. And if that is not enough the storage industry is a billion-dollar industry that provides even more space to keep all that stuff when it doesn’t fit in our homes.
I have a landscaping truck that often passes by my home with the slogan, “Don’t keep up with the Joneses, impress them!” That is the aim so many have taken in life. Get ahead! But always comparing what you have to what others have is a no-win situation. You are never going to get ahead, or even keep up. Someone will always have “MORE.”
Think about the word “MORE.” You cannot achieve it. As soon as you get “MORE,” there will still be something “MORE.” If you are going after “MORE,” you are chasing the impossible.
There are some ways that you are better off than others. There are other ways that they are better off than you. But what we tend to see is other people’s blessings more so than the challenges they face. We see the greener grass in our neighbor’s yard. We fail to see all the work and money that went into keeping it green. We don’t see that our neighbor resents his green grass because of the constant care that goes into it.
Appreciate what you have. Develop the gifts, skills, and talents that God’s given you. It’s not about who has the most or who did the best. The question is if we make the most and do the best with what we have.
Amen to today’s message. Thank you Pastor for all you do for those of us who need these daily inspirations. I have been following you for about 3 years. It is this year though that the “40 Things to Give up for Lent” has been the most rewarding. I am excited to ‘study” (my words) and education myself to remember each day’s message. It truly hits home on so many levels.
You are a true inspiration of God’s message and I’m very thankful for all the dedication and hard work you provide to us all over the world.”
