My life passes more swiftly than a runner. It flees away without a glimpse of happiness. (Job 9:25, NLT)
There are many of us who are living a hurried life. We are constantly busy and wearing ourselves out. But the question must be asked is: “what is the rush?” So many of us are rushing to a place that is nowhere good. Why are we in such a hurry? Our busy and hurried lifestyle is not producing good fruit. What we are producing is:
- More stress/anxiety: The more you take on the more responsibility you have. Your life becomes a balancing act and with one wrong step, everything comes crashing down.
- Lack of joy: You don’t have the time to enjoy life. You don’t have time for the things that bring you pleasure.
- Health issues: The lack of sleep, constant worry, failure to exercise, and fast food diet leads nowhere good.
- Less productivity: You never fully accomplish one thing before you off running to the next thing.
- A failure to hear God: Psalm 46:10 says to be still and know God.
- Disconnected relationships: Busyness leads to self-absorption that neglects relationships with others.
- Unrealiability: People become frustrated that you are involved in everything but committed to nothing.
- Lack of progress: We are often busy because we don’t have any direction in our life. The more clear we are about our purpose the more intentional decisions we make.
- Constantly Tired: It wears you down spiritually, emotionally, and physically.
- Becoming mistake prone: When we are rushed we become less careful.

Prayer
Lord, I am too often busy and hurried. I am always rushing for more. But for all my effort, I don’t see the fruit I desire. I lack your joy and build more worry and stress into my life. Lord, give me pause. Slow my pace to walk in your steps. Keep me from getting ahead of you. Give me patient trust in you.
