“He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but was made manifest in the last times for the sake of you who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.” (1 Peter 1:20–21, ESV)
He has always been there. He was there at the foundation of the world. Jesus is eternal. He is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. He is immovable. He is our rock. He is our fortress. He is not going anywhere. He is faithful.
This is comforting to know. Jesus has always been there for you. He was there for you even before you came into existence. You may not have recognized it, but that does not mean he was not there. He is always ready to listen. And he is always there for you to come back home.
Sometimes you will see a business advertise how long they have been around. A sign might hang in the window: “Serving our community since 1974.” It is a way to show dependability and reliability. Jesus has a claim that no one can make. He was serving the world since before the beginning of time. That is reliability like no other.
His promises never fail. In a world where we are often disappointed with the commitment of others, Jesus is 100% committed always.
Reflection
- What does it mean to you that Jesus is always dependable?
- How does Jesus reliability give you confidence to follow him?
Prayer
Jesus, you have been with me every step of the way. You are faithful. You are dependable. You are more reliable than anything I know. I thank you that I can always trust in you. Help me to follow wherever you may lead. Amen.
