Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 5:10, ESV)

Our verse of the week this week is Matthew 5:10 from the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus tells us that those who are persecuted for righteousness sake are blessed. This may seem odd that we would consider those who are persecuted as blessed. But what he says here is that it is about more than just simply being persecuted. What he says is that it is those who are persecuted for doing the right thing.
There is a peace of mind that comes with doing the right thing. But there is also a cost that often comes with doing the right thing. There are many times when it is not easy to do the right thing. It takes faith and trust in God that when we persevere he will ultimately honor our integrity and virtue. If you suffer for doing good, know that it does not go unnoticed by God.
