Theme for the Week: Growth
Rather train yourself for godliness; for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come. (1 Timothy 4:7–8, ESV)
Learning from experience
When I started college, I went to Knox College in Galesburg, IL. When I shared this with people, more than a few people sarcastically responded that they had gone to the school of "hard knox." There is something to be said for experience.
I wish I knew 20 years ago what I know today. Life would have been much easier. But it took 20 years of experience and learning to get to the point I am today. I have grown in so many ways. I needed those 20 years of experience. I am sure you have too. Life experiences teach us so much. Maybe I can relate to those who sarcastically responded to me, as I recognize that I have learned so much more from the school of "hard knox" than I ever learned in school.
You will not stay where you are
You will not stay where you are for very long. You are either growing stronger in your faith, or you are growing weaker in your faith. You are either growing closer to your spouse, or you are drifting apart. You are either living life more abundantly, or you are experiencing greater scarcity.
You are growing stronger, or you are growing weaker. God wants you to experience growth. He desires you win at life. He wants you to experience a fuller more abundant life. He wants for your tomorrow to be even better than today.
This happens through discipleship and stewardship. It is said that you learn from your mistakes or you learn from the mistakes of others. Either way, you learn. It is from the school of hard knocks (learning from our mistakes) or the school of wisdom (learning from the mistakes of others) that we grow.
This week we will talk about the growth that comes through discipleship and stewardship. These are the six themes we will look at this week:
- Monday – Learning
- Tuesday – Discernment
- Wednesday – New experiences
- Thursday – Failure
- Friday – Fitness
- Saturday – Vision
