“Jesus, aware of this, withdrew from there. And many followed him, and he healed them all” (Matthew 12:15, ESV)
There are interruptions in life. One of the things I noticed as I read the gospels is that Jesus was often interrupted. There were times when he planned to rest, but the crowds would follow him. There were other times he was traveling, but people would stop him along the way. These interruptions were powerful opportunities for the glory of God to be revealed. Jesus used these opportunities to heal people, feed people, and comfort them.
What you see as an interruption, just might be a kingdom opportunity. I know that I tend to be task oriented. I get focused on what I feel I need to get done. I sit down at my desk with my task list laid out. But then the phone rings or a person knocks on my door to interrupt my plans. I admit that I tend to get annoyed.
But I have learned more and more, that those interruptions are God ordained. An interruption is not always an interruption. Often they are holy interruptions. God is up to something. An interruption is a kingdom opportunity if I have the patience and the willingness to see it.
The next time you are interrupted, embrace the interruption. Ask yourself where God is at work? What is the opportunity that he is giving you?
Reflection
- How can an interruption be a good thing?
- Have you ever had an interruption that was God ordained?
Prayer
Lord, give me patience and willingness to recognize that many of the interruptions in my life are often an opportunity to embrace your will. Help me to respond with an open heart to see you at work. Amen.
