“And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.” (1 Peter 5:10, ESV)
Our suffering is temporary, but our glory is eternal. Suffering can be painful. It can hurt. It can be bitter. But it will not last forever. For those who are in Christ, our suffering is finite. There is an end.
Every day you are one day closer to your healing. Every day you are one day closer to being free of pain. Every day you are one-day closer to be able to hear again, speak again, walk again, run again, jump again.
It may not be tomorrow. It may not be next week. It may not be next year or the next decade. It may get worse before it gets better. But know that Christ is coming and it will all come to an end. In Revelation, we are told that he will wipe every tear from our eyes. No more pain. No more sorrow. The old order of things will be gone (see Revelation 21:4). That day is coming.
Think about the marathon runner. It is a long run. He may feel like giving up. But he keeps running because he knows that the time is coming when he will stop running. The race will be finished. There will be plenty of time to rest in the glory of finishing the race.
Reflection
- How does knowing that your struggle will end give you confidence to endure?
- What struggle in your life does this knowledge help?
Prayer
Thank you Lord for winning the victory over the struggle. Thank you that it will come to an end. Thank you for the eternal glory that you have won for me. Give me a vision to see that day where there is no more pain or sorrow and I am living content in your perfect presence. Amen!
