“So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples.” (Matthew 28:8, ESV)
The women ran from the tomb with fear and great joy. It must have been an overwhelming experience, but they went. They were unsure. They were filled with doubt. They had all sorts of questions without many answers, but they obeyed the angel and went.
They also had joy. Jesus was risen. He was alive. They knew that they could not go wrong with him. It was the joy of living in faithfulness. God had surpassed their expectations. There was no better place to be.
When we obey God’s will, there will be moments when we will walk more by faith than we will by sight. There may be more questions in our minds than there are answers. The doubt in our mind may cause us to walk in fear.
But there is a joy in walking in faithfulness. There is a reward for faithfulness. Anything worth doing is never going to be easy. If you know you are doing the right thing, the obedient thing, and the faithful thing – take the leap! Jesus will catch you. You can’t go wrong with him. That doesn’t mean that it will not be fearful, but you will land on your feet. There is no better place to be.
Reflection
- Has there been a time where you fearful to obey God?
- How do you take the leap of faith when you doubt.
Prayer
Lord, it is not always easy to obey you. I am often weighed down by doubt. I live in fear rather than faith. Give me the courage to live in faithfulness and obedience to you. Give me the power of your Holy Spirit to do the right thing even when I doubt. Amen.
