“But Moses said to the LORD, “Oh, my Lord, I am not eloquent, either in the past or since you have spoken to your servant, but I am slow of speech and of tongue.”” (Exodus 4:10, ESV)
You can watch videos on YouTube of people walking into glass doors. When Apple first built it’s new $5 billion headquarters, there were several calls to 911 of people injured by walking into glass walls. Sometimes there are barriers that we don’t see. They catch us off guard.
But there are other times where we imagine barriers that do not exist. We easily create obstacles of our imagination where are no obstacles. We may think there is a wall when there is no wall at all.
These barriers may be imagined out of fear. We convince ourselves and others that they are real. What are some of these imagined barriers?
- I’m too old
- I’m too young
- I’m not qualified
- I’m not creative enough
- I’m not smart enough
- I’m not experienced enough
- Other people will think it’s silly
- Other people will be critical
- I don’t have the time
If you need an excuse, you can certainly find an excuse. But an excuse is only an excuse. It is not a barrier unless we make to be a barrier.
Moses was great at coming up with excuses. He said, “I can’t speak.” He said, “the people will not listen to me.” He said, “I am too old.” He said, “I don’t want to do this.” But God had a response to every one of his excuses.
God is bigger than our imagination. Which makes him to be bigger than any excuse we could imagine. He is certainly more real!
