It has been a while since I last posted an update on the healing of my burn wound. The good news is that I continue to heal. The open wound that resulted from the accident on June 28 has almost fully closed. I am almost certain that it will happen by the end of the week.
Many of you have asked about any pain I might have experienced. The good news is that I have experienced little pain if any at all. It was painful when it happened, but since then I have been free of pain. More than anything else, it has been uncomfortable. The bandage is hot and sweaty. It is the itchiness that bothers me more than anything else. It is such a relief to take the bandage off if only for a few moments. And I am looking forward to not having to wear the bandage all the time.
I praise God that there has not been an infection that resulted from this injury. I have been told that because of the severity of the injury, that it is difficult to prevent infection with these types of burns. I am thankful that my wife, Barbara, is a nurse. I owe much to her in helping to prevent infection.
Because of the progress that has been made I have been able to take walks around the block and return to my office. I have resumed many of my normal everyday activities as long as they are not too strenuous. It is so nice not to be confined to a couch. Although I am “itching” to go for a run, I know I need to be patient.
Next week, I will be on vacation. It is an incredible blessing that my healing has progressed to the point where I will be able to do some of the things with my family that I have not been able to do this summer. I am looking forward to the pool, the amusement park, going hiking, the beach, and whatever other discoveries we make.
Looking ahead, the doctor has shared with me that I will need to wear a specially made compression sock for the next year. I will need to wear it for 23 hours each day. The purpose of this sock is to keep the scar tissue at bay. My next appointment is on Friday when I will get measured for this sock.
I thank you for the prayers. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate them. So many of you have reached out to me. It is good to know that so many people care. You are a great encouragement to me. I love you all.

I followed the doctor’s orders and had a prescription for Silvadeen.
