“Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.” (Philippians 1:2, ESV)
Grace and peace are from God. He is the giver. Grace and peace come down to us. Grace and peace are not found:
- in our circumstances
- in another person
- in getting the right job
- in having the perfect kids
- in buying the latest and greatest
- in taking an exotic vacation
- in attaining a degree
- in attaining recognition
- in maintaining good health
- in being productive
Grace and peace come from God alone!
There are times when our lives are out of control. The storms come fast and furious. But through the storms of life, I can have peace. That is because peace is the result of God’s Spirit in my life. It is not about my circumstances.
How many of us become anxious and worried about trivial matters? That is what happens when we strive to find peace in our circumstances. If we look to find peace in our circumstances, we will never find peace. Our circumstances are in constant flux and so will be our peace. Jesus is the rock and his peace is sure and certain.
If you lack grace and peace in your life, ask God to give it. Pray for his grace to come down like rain. Seek it where it may be found – in his Word! Listen to his voice above all the commotion of the world. Let the presence of Christ give you the peace that surpasses all understanding. Abide in Jesus’ presence.
