And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. Philippians 1:6 (ESV)
God began a good work. We go back to Genesis, and it says that he created the heavens and the earth. And it was all good!
He created you. Psalm 139:14 declares that you are wonderfully and fearfully made. In God’s good wisdom, he gave you your life and being. You are a precious and valuable part of his creation.
Furthermore, you were so valuable to him that he gave Jesus to die for you. You are more valuable to him than you realize. You probably already know John 3:16. But instead of reading “the whole world,” insert your name.
For God so loved [insert name] that he sent his one and only son.
That puts a whole new perspective on this verse. But the truth of the matter is that if you were the only person ever to live, God would still have sent Jesus for you.
God has much invested in both you and me. He created us and redeemed us. Knowing God has invested so much, gives us the confidence that he will not give up on us. We can be assured that he will finish what he started. He is not a God who quits.
Maybe you feel that God has quit on you. Perhaps you think that you have come to a dead end. Or you are convinced that life is going nowhere good.
But listen to Paul’s words. He is SURE that God will bring to completion the good work he started. Keep believing! Keep moving forward! That does not mean the way forward will be easy. It may prove difficult. But God will guide you to accomplish the work he has prepared for you. And on the last day, he will welcome you into the eternal home. This is our hope. This is our confidence. This is our joy.
