“Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.”” (Matthew 28:10, ESV)
Jesus tells the women to go and tell the disciples the good news that he is risen from the dead. They go from being spectators to participants in the story. They had seen the empty tomb. They encountered Jesus on the road. Now they are sent on a mission. They have a role to play. They are to tell what they had seen.
They were witnesses. There are two parts to being a witness. The first is observing the event. The second is to tell what you have seen. If you have experienced healing in your life as a result of God’s hand, it is not something to keep to yourself. Go and tell. Share it. It is good news. Be a witness!
There is something about sharing that makes an experience more real. When we keep something to ourselves, we are often led to doubt. We have an obligation to ourselves to share. If we don’t, we can easily start to question if our hope is real and if the experience was real.
Sharing hope is the work of God. Jesus invited the women to participate together with him in that work. And the great thing is that he also invites us to participate. The more we share, the more our faith is built.
Reflection
- Where have you experienced “good news” in your life as a result of God’s hand?
- How can you share that “good news?”
Prayer
Thank you, Lord, for the good news of the resurrection. Thank you for working in our lives to bring hope and healing. Thank for making us participants in your story to go and tell. Fill us with your Holy Spirit to serve as witnesses to the joy you bring. Amen.
