Reflection
Yesterday, we talked about how the resurrection gives us significance. It give us a relationship, a project, and a redemptive view of suffer. Today we take a deeper look at how it gives us a relationship.
People come an go in our lives. For the most part, the people there at the beginning of our lives are usually not there at the end. The people that will be there at the end most likely were not there at the beginning.
The first significant relationship we have in life is with our parents. But what does the Bible say? “A man shall leave his father and mother and be united with his wife” (see Genesis 2:24). The relationship with our parents become less significant and the relationship with our spouse becomes more significant. Our parents who were there at the beginning probably will not be there at the end. We may or may not outlive our spouse. Our vows are “till death do us part.” What is implied is there is a parting.
Relationships are a gift from God. We are to treasure each of those relationship and treasure each moment God gives us. Our lives will intersect with the lives of others as we journey through life. But we must realize there is an expiration on every relationship we carry with us in life.
Death fractures relationships. It tears us apart from the ones we love. It is impossible to find one person who has not lost a loved one to death.
That is where the resurrection comes into the picture. The resurrection gives us someone who will journey with us all the way through life on this earth and beyond to eternal life. Although we may lose parents, spouse, children, and dear friends – Jesus is one relationship we can carry with us all throughout life.
Jesus conquered death so death cannot fracture our relationship with him. Maybe you have heard it said that Jesus did not come to give us a religion. He came to give us a relationship. He is our greatest love.
When it comes to our loved ones in life there is nothing greater we can do for them, but to point them to Jesus. It is good to let my family know that I love them. It is even more important that I let them know that Jesus loves them. I will not always be there for them, but I know that Jesus will.
