1. Reformation Day
Today, is Halloween. Trick or Treat! Costumes and all that good stuff. What you may not realize is that today is also Reformation Day! Reformation is not as much celebrated as Halloween, yet it is a day that holds great significance for us as Lutherans.
It was on this day in 1517 that Martin Luther posted the 95 Thesis on the Wittenberg Church Door in Germany. The 95 Theses were written as a protest and call to debate against the sale of indulgences. The idea of protest is where we get the term protestant church. The 95 Theses would spark the reformation and forever change the Church.
2. Hurricane Sandy
Our thoughts and prayer go out to everyone on the East Coast. While there is widespread devastation and loss of property, we are thankful that the loss of life was minimal in comparison to other recent disasters. If you are interested in helping support relief efforts, I want to encourage you to check out Lutheran Church Charities at lutheranchurchcharities.org. One of the great things about Lutheran Church Charities is that 100% of any donation goes exactly where they say it is going. Another option to check out is Lutheran Disaster response at lcms.org/disaster.
3. Service day
We have a work day on Saturday, Nov 3. This is an opportunity to serve our Lord of Life family and community with the love of Jesus. We have several opportunities to serve. Each activity is approximately 2-3 hours. We have a need of 28 people to be able to complete the list of jobs that need to be done. Jobs involve cleaning, yard work, and home repairs. For more information contact Curt Berg at cberg@lolchurch.net
4. Blessings Shop
The blessing shop is open Thurs. Nov. 1 6-8 p.m., Fri. Nov. 2 9-4, Sat. Nov. 3 8-Noon. The Blessings shop is a great way to purge your closets of the items we no longer need and find some items that we would be blessed to own. Invite your friends, neighbors, and everyone else you meet! We accept: clothes, shoes, coats, toys, books, games, household items, garage/workshop items, but no furniture.
5. Daylight Savings Ends
Don’t forget to fall back this weekend. Set your clocks back an hour before going to bed on Saturday night.
6. The Advent Conspiracy
Have you heard about it?

Curt Berg (left) Director of Care Ministries, and Senior Pastor, Rev. Phil Ressler at Lord of Life, joyfully show the most recent check received last week as a result of Lutheran Church Charities’ appeal.
Tara, one of the LCC staff K-9 Comfort Dogs, had an exciting and memorable day visiting the Seals family and little Meagan on Tuesday. Meagan, to the amazement of her mother Luellen, reached out on her own to touch and pet Tara. This simple action brought tears to Luellen’s eyes as it is unusual for Meagan to reach out like that. Not only that but it happened again later in the visit. The whole family enjoyed the visit from Tara accompanied by LCC staffer Marie Payes. The visit ended with Meagan’s sisters, Madison and McKenzie, playing ball with Tara on the front lawn while Meagan rested in her mother’s arms.
